Save faster and also save time by adopting a fashion uniform? Yes please.
This could be the answer to all my wardrobe woes…
And also help me save faster for investing and paying down our mortgage! Loving that.
Did you know that some of the most successful men and women have employed a style uniform?
People like Steve Jobs with his dark grey turtlenecks, Mark Zuckerberg with his trademarked grey t-shirt, Sofia Coppola, Angela Merkel and Hilary Clinton, queen of the pant-suit.
But can it really be employed for ordinary women?
It seems so. According to a wonderful article in the Washingtonian (link below), a woman in Washington DC, Renata Briggman, has employed a style uniform with great success.
She did it because she was spending so much time trying to figure out what to wear. And she had better things to do with her time than worry about what she was wearing. She had two kids, and worked full time as a real estate agent.
For her work she always needed to look consistent and professional to give that feeling of dependability, so she decided to keep the following classic items…
- Black pants
- Black dress shoes (or Black boots in winter)
- White t-shirt
- Grey blazer
- And a few accessories like a red belt, necklace etc which ‘changed things up a bit’
…And toss the rest? Well almost.
On the weekend she puts on a pair of jeans instead of the black pants, and I assume she has some gym gear that she can use for working out in.
But apart from that Renata’s wardrobe is extremely streamlined.
The really interesting thing was that people always complimented her on how nice she looked, and never even noticed that she was wearing the same thing. Every. Single. Day.
Isn’t that incredible?
Just goes to show that most people are only concerned about themselves and their own lives and don’t really notice much about anyone else!
But just think about how much time she saves.
Think about how much money she saves not buying things to match everything else in her wardrobe.
Definitely food for thought, right?
